Migrate from DOMOS5 to DOMOS 6

General information

This manual will guide you through the whole migration process and will show the differences between hardware appliances and virtual machines.

This process allows to restore an already saved configuration backup, but if no backup has ever been performed, all data on the appliance will be lost.

DOMOS6 is available for the following hardware appliances:

Preparation

Before you migrate an exisiting ARP-GUARD-installation, you have to install all available updates and then create a backup of the system configuration.

Backup

Login to the DOMOS WebUI. The DOMOS WebUI is available using the address https://IP-of-your-appliance:10000.

Create a configuration backup in DOMOS

Once you’re logged in, go to Backup/Restore NG β†’ Config Backup and click on the button Create new configuration backup.

Now you can download a file called configuration.dat. This files contains the configuration of the DOMOS system and of the ARP-GUARD software.

IMPORTANT

Keep the file in a safe place. It contains all the important information you need to restore the system.

Prepare installation of hardware appliances

Update SDR Stick with latest AppliPACK

SDR3 sticks provided by SECUDOS are already loaded with an AppliPACK.

AppliPACKs are available from our Partner ISL GmbH. You can get the latest version directly from them.

After you have received the latest version of the AppliPACK, please connect the SDR stick to your computer. Delete the file applipack.sdr from the stick and copy the latest version of the AppliPACK to the stick. Please make sure that the file is named applipack.sdr (just as before). Otherwise no correct installation can take place.

SDR Stick

Automatic Configuration during Installation

You can use the SDR Stick to perform an automatic configuration during the installation. To do this, simply copy the configuration.dat file created under Create a configuration backup in DOMOS to the SDR stick. The file will be taken during the installation for a configuration. So after the installation your system contains directly the old configuration and is ready for use.

Prepare installation of virtual appliances

ISO-Image

To obtain a DOMOS6 installation image (ISO), please contact the colleagues at ISL GmbH directly.

Currently the following VM hostsystem are supported:

  • VMware ESXi
  • Hyper-V
  • Linux KVM

The virtual appliance requires at least the following hardware to function:

  • min. 1 CPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 1 Network interface
  • 20GB Disk-Space
  • UEFI BIOS (optional)
note

Please select a harddisk size which belongs to your old installation. If you need sizes above 2TB you have to use a UEFI BIOS for the VM.

ARP-GUARD Installation

Hardware Appliances

Please shutdown your appliance.

Now please connect the SDR stick onto one of your appliance’s USB ports and start it up. Depending on the appliance model, this process may take up to 20 minutes. When the LCD shows you the message SDR finished, please unplug the SDR stick from your appliance. Turn off your appliance and turn it on again. The subsequent boot will perform a post installation called SDRPI. This may take up to 10 minutes. During the SDRPI process, the appliance may reboot itself.

note

If your appliance does not have an LCD the status LED blinks green. If any error occurs, it lights up red continuously. When the process completes successfully, it lights up green continuously. If any error occurred during this process, please contact (support@secudos.de) and attach the file sdr.log found on your SDR stick.

Virtual Appliances

Check if the new VM is able to boot from the ISO image, then start the VM. The installation process does not need any interaction. After finish the VM shuts down automatically and is ready to use.

Restore Configuration

After an installation without a configuration, the system boots using a default configuration. The network configuration on appliances with LCD can be configured using the LCD. All other installations (VMs, appliances without LCD) the network have to be configured via console using the command DomosNetConf.

After setting up the network, login to the DOMOS WebUI. The DOMOS WebUI is reached using the address: https://IP-of-your-appliance:10000.

Open Backup/Restore NG β†’ Config Restore. Then upload you configuration backupfile (configuration.dat). After a reboot the configuration is active.
